Enlightenment grows through your application of spiritual revelations. To understand why this is, you first need to understand
what enlightenment is. You may be consciously aware of many spiritual Truths, but to achieve enlightenment from those realizations you must actually be accepting of those inner insights. Enlightenment
comes from allowing your awareness of spiritual Truths to edify and illuminate your understandings. Enlightenment then
grows from applying this understanding to your life situations. Enlightenment is merely about being open to Spirit; being receptive to the counsel of your inner being (which counsel may be perceived through your intuitions). It sounds like an easy enough requisite to fulfill - to achieve enlightenment simply be accepting of your realizations of spiritual Truths. But as such acceptance always involves parting with a contrary but familiar idea we often find extending such acceptance a difficult thing to do. We grow so accustomed to thinking one way; so used to seeing the world from a certain vantage point that the thought of placing our faith in something which is outside the reference of our direct experience can seem paralyzingly terrifying. But that’s what faith is; faith is the belief in things not seen. And this action, of taking that leap of faith, is the gateway to enlightenment. You have to let go of your delusions before you may gain a clearer glimpse of the Truth. As an actual act, letting go is an easy thing to do for it calls for absolutely no exertion. It’s holding on that requires effort. However actually bringing yourself to a mental place where your fear of letting go is weaker than your desire to move on and try something new can sometimes take some time. It sometimes takes some encouragement. It sometimes takes some confidence building – a period of getting your nerve up. Faith holds the promise of innumerable rewards, but the enjoyment of those rewards may only be realized if you can persuade yourself to brave the ominous feeling that is very often aroused when we place our reliance in faith. It bears repeating, faith is a stage you must pass through in order to secure enlightenment. There is no getting around this which is why your spiritual evolution can sometimes feel stalled. The reason you may not be progressing in your spiritual growth may be because you are still holding onto a false belief which you which you just can’t yet bring yourself to amend or let go.
