What is spiritual enlightenment? Spiritual enlightenment is the term we use to describe an increase in our ability to perceive the Truth more clearly. How exactly do we do this? How does one become more spiritually enlightened? Ludwig Borne once said, “Getting rid of a delusion makes us wiser than getting hold of a truth.” What this observation brings to light is the fact that it is precisely by letting go of our delusions that we, accordingly, arrive at the Truth. And for every delusion we rid ourselves of we grow more spiritually enlightened.

Spiritual enlightenment is indivisibly linked to self realization because Truth begins and ends with one’s self. You can only perceive in something else those qualities which are present within yourself. For example, the only way to perceive ugliness in another is by holding the belief that there is ugliness within yourself. Whether this belief is subconscious or conscious makes no difference. Either way, it’s present. It is impossible to grow more spiritually enlightened about the mysteries of the universe without first becoming more spiritually enlightened about yourself. It is your light within which illuminates the world without.

So how do you know when you are having a spiritually enlightening experience? You experience spiritual enlightenment every time you rid yourself of a prejudice. You experience spiritual enlightenment every time you out grow a limitation. You experience spiritual enlightenment every time you realize something remarkable about yourself. You experience spiritual enlightenment every time you recognize something greater about your potential. In your becoming more accepting about giving and receiving love, you experience spiritual enlightenment… We could go on and on.
